William Herbert Atkin died on Wednesday 31st May 1916, aged 24 years, and was remembered on the PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, Hampshire.
H.M.S. Black Prince was sunk during the Battle of Jutland, which took place in the North Sea during 31st May to 1st June 1916. He may have died alongside fellow Kirkby resident Amos Butler, who is also remembered on the War Memorial.
He was born c1892 at Burton-on-Trent, Staffs. He was the son of Annie Atkin, who lived at 55 Clumber Street, East Kirkby, Nottingham, at the time of his death.
