Leonard Cresswell died on Monday, 25th March 1918, aged 25 years, and was buried in ST. PIERRE CEMETERY, AMIENS, Somme, France.

He was born c1893 at Alfreton, Derbys, to parents Stephen John & Mary Cresswell. Stephen Cresswell was a Colliery Deputy, who was originally born in Alfreton. His wife, Mary, was a native of Shirland, near Alfreton. The family lived in Alfreton until just before the 1901 census, when they resided in Sutton-in-Ashfield. By the time of Leonard's death they were living at 9 Edward Street, East Kirkby, Notts.
