Leonard James Doughton died on Thursday 24th October 1918, aged 24 years, and was buried in the GIAVERA BRITISH CEMETERY, ARCADE, Italy. He probably died during the "Passage of the Piave" (23rd October to 4th November 1918) during the final Battle of Vittorio-Veneto.

He was born c1894 at Riddings, Derbys, to parents John and Sarah Doughton. John Doughton was a Foundry Labourer, originally from Royston, Herts, who married Sarah Farnsworth in 1890. At the time of the 1901 census, Leonard was living with his family in Hasland, Derbys., and his mothers name was recorded as Cissie. At the time of his death they were living at 7 Hodgkinson Road, East Kirkby, Notts.
