H.M.S. "Vervain", Royal Navy


James Kenneth Worton died on 20th February 1945, aged 19, and is remembered on the PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, Hampshire.

On the 20th February, H.M.S. Vervain was sailing in St George's Channel between SE Ireland and Wales, providing escort for convoy number HX-337. It was hit by a torpedo fired from U-Boat U-1276, and the Vervain was lost. The U-boat was hunted down and destroyed by the sloop "Amethyst".

James Kenneth Warton was the son of James Leonard and Nellie Worton, of Skegby, Nottinghamshire.
