Samuel Mason died on Tuesday 11th December 1917, aged 34 years, and was buried in the STRUMA MILITARY CEMETERY, Kalokastron, Greece.

He was born 27th April 1883 on Stoneyford Lane, Sutton, to parents William & Mary Ann Mason. William Mason was a Coalminer, and a native of Sutton-in-Ashfield, who married Mary Ann Bacon at St Mary Sutton in September 1881. Unfortunately, Mary Ann Mason died in May 1885 (aged 24 years), and William Mason remarried to Harriett Reynolds in 1887. The family were living in Stanton Hill in 1891.
