Jabez Smithurst died on Wednesday 8 August 1917, Age 24, and was buried in SKEGBY (ST. ANDREW) CHURCHYARD, Nottinghamshire.

He was born c1893 in Brinsley, Notts, the son of Jabez and Emma Smithurst. Jabez Smithurst was a coal miner, originally from Greasley, who married Emma Hallam at Brinsley in March 1890. Emma Hallam was a native of Brinsley. 

On the 1901 census the family were living in Heanor, but by 1917 Jabez and Emma Smithurst were living at 60 Marshall Terrace, Stanton Hill, Notts.
