Huthwaite Today
Here are a number of views of Huthwaite as it is today.
Sutton Road
The photograph on the left is a view from outside the Cemetery, looking towards Sutton-in-Ashfield. The right-hand view is slightly nearer to the market place, looking in that direction.
These houses are near the end of Sutton road, with their backs towards the market place. The White Hart pub stands on the corner of Sutton Road and Main Street. At this point Sutton Road becomes Blackwell Road - the road leading across the border to Blackwell in Derbyshire. The Shoulder of Mutton stands near the beginning of Blackwell Road. Across from the White Hart is All Saints Church, and the start of Common Road.
The Shoulder of Mutton was recorded in Pigots Commercial Directory of 1828-9, and was owned at the time by Thomas Marshall.
Main Street
The first picture shows the houses on Main Street opposite the White Hart. Main Street is also one side of the three sided Market Place. Once passed the Market the road continues, as shown in the second picture
Market Place
This picture shows the houses on the Market Place, and Main Street in the distance. The third road, in the foreground of this picture, is Market Street. Once Market Street reaches Main Street it then continues as Station Road, which leads onto Chesterfield Road. At the beginning of Station Road can be found the Peacock and the Workpeoples Inn.
