George William Allsop died on Monday 15th April 1918, aged 19 years & is remembered on the PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL, Comines-Warneton, Hainaut, Belgium.
He was born c1899 in Belper, Derbyshire. He was the only son of Albert Edward Allsop and Sarah Jane his wife. Albert Edward Allsop was a Miller and Confectioner, and was a native of Hucknall Huthwaite. Sarah Jane Allsop, formerly Cooke, was born in Sutton-in-Ashfield and the couple married at St Mary's church in August 1892.
At the time of George William's death, the family lived at 39 Kirkby Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts.
George William was the cousin of George Frederick Allsop (also remembered on Sutton's War Memorial), as their fathers were brothers.

KILLED IN ACTION - We regret to state that Mr A. E. Allsop, Kirkby Road, has received an intimation that his only son, Pte. George Wm. Allsop, has been killed in action. Barely 19 years of age, Private Allsop had been in France only a fortnight. Concerning Private George Frederick Allsop, son of Mr H. Allsop, "Ashlands", who has been missing since December, we are sorry to state that no further news has yet been received.
