John William Bird died on Wednesday 13th June 1917, aged 27 years, and is remembered on the YPRES (MENIN GATE) MEMORIAL, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

He was born 7th November 1889 at Fulwood to parents Joseph and Sarah Eliza Bird. Joseph Bird was a Miner, who married Sarah Eliza Goodall at St Mary, Sutton in December 1887. Joseph Bird died in 1895, and Sarah Eliza remarried in 1897 to Alfred Woods.
