George Gershom Buxton died on Tuesday 20 October 1914, aged 27, and was commemorated on the PLOEGSTEERT MEMORIAL, Comines-Warneton, Hainaut, Belgium.

He was born on 16th May 1888 on Mount Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield. His parents were Walter Buxton and Laura (formerly Cupit) who married at St Thomas, Nottingham in August 1886. Around 1892/3 Walter Buxton later became the Landlord of the Newcastle Arms in Sutton, where he stayed until around 1912 when he moved to Ilkeston.
