John William Dexter died on Sunday 25 April 1915, aged 17 years and 6 months, and was buried in POPERINGHE OLD MILITARY CEMETERY, Poperinge, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. He was the youngest known casualty listed on the Sutton-in-Ashfield War Memorial.
He was born at Stoneyford Lane on 15th October 1897, the son of William and Martha Dexter. His father was a miner, and a native of Shepshed, Leicester, while his mother was born in Dawley, Shropshire. At the time of the 1901 census the family were living at Barricks Yard, Skegby.
