Thomas James Gent died on Saturday 1st July 1916, Age 29, and is remembered on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. He died on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, and was one of ten local men killed on the same day.
He was born c1887 at Hucknall Huthwaite, and was the second son of William and Sarah E. Gent. William Gent was a Coal Miner and a native of Pinxton, Derbys. On the 1901 census the family were living at New Street, Huthwaite.
Thomas Gent was also the husband of Mabel Gent (later Allsop), of 30 Short Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts.
