Herbert Groves died on Monday 30 September 1918, aged 18 years, and was buried in MASNIERES BRITISH CEMETERY, MARCOING, Nord, France.

He was born on 10th January 1900 on Stoneyford Lane, the only son of  William & Charlotte Groves. William Groves was a Coal Miner, and a native of Beighton, Derbys, who married Charlotte Ann Stanway in 1895. At the time of Herbert's death, the family resided at 15 Mount Pleasant, Stoneyford Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield.
