Robert Guy died on Saturday 1 July 1916, Age 21, and was remembered on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. He died on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, and was one of ten local men killed on the same day.
He was born c1895, to parents James and Sarah Jane Guy. James Guy was a Coal Miner, and a native of Madeley, Shropshire, who was living with his family at Queen Street, Cannock in 1901. At the time of his death, the family were living at 28 Carsic Lane, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts.
Robert Guy's friend, Joseph Staley, is also recorded on the war memorial.

Private Robert Guy
Official news has been received of the death of Private Robert Guy, 15332, 11th Battalion C Company Sherwood Foresters, an almost life long friend of Private Staley, whose death is also recorded this week. Deceased's home was at 28, Carsic-lane, and he formerly worked at the Brierley Hill Colliery. He was 21 years of age, and enlisted on September 3rd 1914, and went to France on August 4th 1915. So far no details beyond the official report of his death have been received.
