Joseph Hadfield died on Wednesday 18 September 1918, aged 25 , and was buried at EPEHY WOOD FARM CEMETERY, EPEHY, Somme, France. 

He was born c1893 at Castleford, Yorkshire, to parents Joseph and Elizabeth Hadfield. His father, a Stationary Engine Driver in a Coal Mine, was a native of Eckington, Derbyshire, while his mother was originally from Blaydon, Northants.

Joseph Hadfield was recorded on the absent voters list for 1918, at 83 Chatsworth Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, with the service details 116856 Pte 5th Res. Bn. Notts & Derbys.
