John Henry Hardy died on Thursday 1st February 1917, aged 22, and was buried in COUIN NEW BRITISH CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France.

He was born 12th February 1895 at New Cross, Sutton, the son of Henry Hardy and Ellen (formerly Wolden). Henry Hardy, a miner and native of Pinxton in Derbyshire, married Ellen Wolden in her own parish of St Peter & St Paul, Mansfield, in July 1891. At the time of their sons death they were living at 3 Redcliffe Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts.

In loving and affectionate remembrance of our dear Son, Private J. H. Hardy, 27546, D. Company, 13th Platoon, 10th Royal Warwickshire, 4th Battalion, who died in France, from gas poisoning, on February 1st, 1917, aged 22 years.
His cheery smiles and pleasant ways,
Are pleasant to recall,
He had a kindly word for each,
And died beloved by all.
From his sorrowing Mother and Father, Brothers and Sisters and from all.
