George Hastings died on Friday 14th July 1916, Age 22, and is commemorated on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France.
He was born c1896 in Kingston-upon-Hull, the son of George Hastings and Sarah (formerly Willey). His father was a native of Hull, and a Master Mariner at that port, but his mother was born in Sutton-in-Ashfield, and the couple married at St Mary's Church, Sutton, in July 1890. In 1901 the family were living at 77 Redbourne Street, Kingston-upon-Hull.

| Hastings In loving memory of Sarah the beloved wife of George Hastings (Master Mariner) who died Nov 21st 1913 aged 46 years. We have sailed on together hand in hand and heart in heart both in fair and stormy weather and twas very hard to part. And of their eldest son, Private George Hastings of the Machine Gun Sections Leicester Regiment who was killed in action on the 14th of July 1916 near Memitz Wood France aged 22 years (Family Gravestone in St Mary's Churchyard) |
