George William Holmes

George William Holmes died on 2nd March 1921, aged 41 years, and was buried in the SUTTON-IN-ASHFIELD CEMETERY, Nottinghamshire. (C . DD. 3240). He was twice wounded while on active service, and eventually discharged from hospital in 1917, although he never totally recovered from his experience. 

He was born 22nd May 1879 at Woodhouse, and was the son of William & Lucy Holmes. William Holmes was a Coal Miner at the time of George's birth, but by 1901 he was a Waterworks Inspector. At the time of the 1901 census the family were living at 15 Wood Street, Sutton, and sharing their house with George and his new family.

George William Holmes married Lily Pike in 1900, and at the time of his death she was living at 43 Parliament Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, with their daughter.
