Harry Hopkinson died on 1st July 1916, aged 25 years, and was remembered on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France. He died on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, and was one of ten local men killed on the same day.

He was born 4th August 1891 at Devonshire Square, Sutton, to parents Thomas & Ruth Hopkinson. Thomas Hopkinson was a Miner who married Ruth Crossland at St Mary's church in October 1872. On the 1901 census the family were living at 13 Victoria Street, Kirkby.

He was also the Husband of Harriett Ann Hopkinson, of 79 Chatsworth Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts.
