George William Marsh, known as William, died on Tuesday 17th July 1916, aged about 19, and was remembered on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France.

He was born c1897 at Sutton-in-Ashfield, the son of Linda (Linney) Marsh. She later married Thomas Yates in June quarter 1900, and they lived at 6 Spring Hill, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts. In 1901, George William is listed with is mother and stepfather, and his older brother, Robert Henry Marsh. 

His brother Robert Henry Marsh died ten days earlier, and is also recorded on the War Memorial. His entry on the Commonwealth War graves site quotes: "His brother William also fell".
