Cyril Mellors died on Tuesday 26 September 1916, aged 21 years, and is commemorated on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, Somme, France.

He was born 24th February 1895 on Union Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield. His parents were Arthur & Eliza Jane Mellors. Arthur Mellors was a Miner, who married Eliza Jane Woodhead at St Mary's Church, Sutton-in-Ashfield in June 1895.

Sergeant Mellors was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in January 1916, for conspicuous gallantry.

The reverse of the medal states ~

"For distinguished conduct in the field"
