John William Parnell died on Sunday 30 September 1917, Age 28, and buried in the COXYDE MILITARY CEMETERY, Koksijde, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
He was born at Sutton-in-Ashfield circa 1889, and was the son of Isabella Parnell. On the 1891 census Isabella was living with her parents, but John William was not included on the census return. She married Herbert Whetton in 1894. At the time of John's death they were living at 58 Woodhouse Yard, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts.

Parnell - In Fond and Loving Memory of Private John William Parnell, of the K.O.Y.L.I., who was killed Somewhere in France, September 30th 1917, aged 26 years. Days of sadness still come o'er us, Tears of sorrow often flow; Memory keeps our loved one near us, Whom God claimed not long ago.
