John William Pickbourne died on Thursday 7th November 1918, aged 21 years, and was buried in ARQUATA SCRIVIA COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, Italy. Private Pickbourne was the last known local soldier to die before the Armistice was signed on 11th November 1918.

He was born 12th December 1896 at Spring Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, to parents John & Mary Ann Pickburn. John Pickburn was a Labourer, who married Mary Ann Chapman at St Mary's church, Sutton-in-Ashfield in February 1888.
