Daniel Staley died on Thursday 14th November 1918, Age 29, and was buried in the AVESNES-SUR-HELPE COMMUNAL CEMETERY, Nord, France. He is one of the few local soldiers who died after the signing of the Armistice on 11th November 1918.

He was born c1889 at Newhall, Derbyshire, the son of Levi and Mary Hannah Staley. Levi Staley was a Coal Miner, who married Mary Hannah Sparrow in December quarter 1886. On the 1901 census the family were living at High Street, Newhall, but by the time of Daniel's death they resided at 31 Tudor Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts.

His younger brother, Joseph Staley, is also listed on the War Memorial.

Military Medal in May 1917
