Matthew Hiram Vardy died on Monday 30 September 1918, aged 20, and was buried at MENIN ROAD SOUTH MILITARY CEMETERY, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.

He was born 30th October 1897 on Parliament Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, to parents William Robert & Ann Vardy. William Robert Vardy was a Coal Miner, and a native of Derbyshire. At the time of his death his family resided at 32 Swan Yard, Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts.

 Matthew Vardy was engaged to be married.
