Gershom Whetton died on Friday 22 March 1918, Age 24, and is commemorated on the POZIERES MEMORIAL, Somme, France.

He was born on the 1st October 1893, on High Pavement. He was the son of Joseph and Eliza Whetton, who were living at 17, Dalestorth Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, at the time of his death. He was also the husband of Florence May Whetton, of 12, Leicester Street, Brighton.

He married his sweetheart, Florence May Evans on 14th February 1918 (St.Valentines day), and he died just a month after they married. His sister was Grandmother to John Whetton, Suttons Olympic miler.
