Gershom Wildsmith died on 17th October 1918, aged 29 years, and was buried in the VAUX-ANDIGNY BRITISH CEMETERY, Aisne, France.

He was born c1889 at Sutton-in-Ashfield to parents Charles & Mary Ann Wildsmith. Charles Wildsmith was a Bricklayers Labourer who married Mary Ann Renshaw at St Mary's Church, Sutton in July 1875. They were both natives of Sutton-in-Ashfield.

His two younger brothers, William Wildsmith and Wilfrid Wildsmith, are remembered on Sutton's War Memorial.
