HALL B. G.
Bernard Gilham Hall
Leading Seaman D/JX 255202
H.M.S. Saumarez, Royal Navy
Bernard Gilham Hall died on 28th December 1943, aged 23 years, and was remembered on the PLYMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL, Devon.
On the 28th December 1943, HMS Saumarez was around the north cape of Norway; one of a number of British ships which were trying to attack the German ship "Scharnhorst". During the battle, Scharnhorst returned fire on HMS Saumarez, and a 280 mm shell killed eleven sailors. Bernard Hall was most likely to have been one of those casualties.
He was the son of Arthur and Annie Hall, of Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.
