George Edward Kirkpatrick died on Saturday 29 July 1944, Age 30, and was buried in ST. MARTIN-SUR-OREUSE COMMUNAL CEMETERY, Yonne, France. He is also remembered on the 49th Squadron Roll of Honour.

He was the son of John Harry and Marguerite Kirkpatrick, and the husband of Hilda Kirkpatrick, of Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.

George Kirkpatrick was one of the crew of "JB701", a Lancaster Bomber from the 49th squadron which was shot down over northern France on July 29 1944, after a bombing operation on Stuttgart, Germany. All seven of the crew died when the plane came down and crashed between the villages of St Martin sur Oreuse and La Chapelle sur Oreuse, in the French department of l’Yonne, northern France.
