Harold W. Phipps died on 25th May 1940, aged 27 years, and was buried at ST. ALBANS CEMETERY, Hertfordshire. Death may have occurred at the Hill End Hospital, St Albans, which was in use by the military at this time.

He was the son of William Henry and Lottie Phipps, of Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.
