Second World War Memorial Gates
As well as being listed on the War Memorial, a set of gates were also erected at the entrance to St Mary's Churchyard to commemorated those lost in World War Two. The names are inscribed on two panels located on the gate posts. The inscription reads:
These gates were erected by Public
Subscription
in grateful memory of those men and women of this town
who laid down their lives in the World War 1939-1945
The majority of those named on the gates are also mentioned on the War Memorial, but not all mentioned on the War Memorial are listed on the gates. Those named on the gates are marked on the above list with a star (*). Three names are on the gates but are not included on the War Memorial. These are marked on the new Missing Names section with a star (*).
