Cart & Horse
Located on Forest Side, which is now known as Station Road. The Pub was opened to take advantage of a new Tramway between Mansfield and Alfreton in 1819.
In 1864, John Frost owned both the Cart & Horse and the 'Railway Commercial Hotel' so some of the following occupants may have been his tenants. In 1872 the next occupant, Charles Heath was also listed as owning the Cart & Horse and Railway Inn", which suggests that he ran the Cart & Horse while either renting out or employing a manager for the Railway Inn.
In F. White's Directory of Nottinghamshire from 1864, the "Cart & Horse Commercial Hotel" was described as " ... an excellent inn, with every accommodation for fishing or pleasure parties. Opposite the inn is a large reservoir, covering 75 acres, and abounding with fish, cheifly pike."
The property was aquired by Mansfield Brewery in 1883 for £2000. It is still trading.
