Located near to Alfreton Road, or sometimes known as Fullwood Road, this building was located at the end of Mapplewells Road, overlooking the New Hucknall Colliery. It was first recorded as a Beerhouse owned by James Walton in 1864.
In May 1880 the property was put up for auction, and was aquired by Mansfield Brewery at a cost of £700. In 1881 the building was recorded as the "Fullwood Public House", and in 1891 it was recorded as the "Mapplewells Inn". It was, and still is, commonly referred to as the "Mapp".
The old pub was replaced by a new building on 21st December 1962, which was located on the main Alfreton Road, slightly closer to Sutton. In a newspaper report at the time, the original Mapplewells Inn was described as "beginning to look like something from the worst days of the industrial revolution, and was totally inadequate for present day conditions" which I believe was the common thought about older buildings at that time. The old structure is currently being used by an Upholstery company.
