Located on the corner of Market Street (formerly Little Lane) and Market Place. The property was first recorded as a Beerhouse in 1861 when Josiah Towers added Beer to his usual grocery business. It was usually listed as a Beerhouse or Beer Retailer, but went by the name Corner Pin in the 1874 directory. Josiah Towers died in February 1880, when his wife took over the business.

By 1891 the same property had become known as the Market Hotel, although even with that grand sounding name it was still recorded as a Beerhouse. The building was demolished in 1903 and was replaced with a property which was also known as the Market Hotel. It may already have been owned by the Home Brewery Company at this time.
This Market Hotel was demolished in February 1906.

Market Hotel/Market Tavern
The property was rebuilt as the Market Hotel on another corner of the Market Square
in 1905, as the council wished to demolish the 1903 building during its Marketplace
redevelopment. The council gave the brewery the site plus £1,950 towards the building of
the new structure, which would replace the previous old Market Hotel.
In the 1920's the occupants were listed as beer retailers, in an unnamed property. By 1941, the Market Hotel name was back in use again.
This property is still open, and trading as the Market Tavern.
