Originally known as the Dew Drop Inn, and located on New Cross, Eastfield.
The property was built by William Downing Adlington of
Skegby in 1869 at a cost of £400. It was listed in the directory of 1874 and shown on the
maps of 1877 and 1878. In 1876, not only did Henry Brown run the Inn, but he was
also an Agricultural Implement Maker, a Coachmaker and Wheelwright.

Also in the 1876 Directory, Job Ellis was listed as owner of the New Cross. This was the first occurance of the name and must have coincided with the change of ownership. By 1881 it was called the New Cross Hotel, and by 1885 it was sold to Mr S. Soar (the then tenant). In 1897 it passed to Messrs Hole & Co. of Newark, trading as Newark Brewery Company. At some point the building was extended or rebuilt.
In 1916 Mrs Townroe appealed to Sutton's War Tribunal to spare Horace Moakes, her son-in-law, from call-up to the trenches, as he was the Hotel's Manager.
The property is still trading.
