The Old Trooper was one of the three Inns in Sutton in 1675. It is also known as the Trooper Inn. The name suggests that the inn may have had it's origin during the Cromwellian Commonwealth, although the earliest known landlord is in 1786, when a meeting was held "at the house of William Brandreth, the Trooper Inn." to discuss repairs of the road between Nottingham and Mansfield.
It was bought by the Mansfield Brewery in 1889 for £2,100, and an application was made in 1912 to extend the property. The building was later demolished during town improvements, sometime after 1941.
