Royal Forester

Also known as the Foresters Inn.

Originally located on Union Street. It is said to have "appeared in 1832" but is not in the 1832, 1835 or 1844 directories under this name. However, a James Turner did have an un-named beerhouse on Union Street in 1844 and was also a Beerhouse keeper in 1832, but no street name was given at that time. The name "Royal Forresters" was first seen in the 1848 directory.

In February 1892, the Royal Forester Inn was sold by auction to the Daybrook Brewery.

In 1916, when John Hardy occupied the property, his son Owen Hardy held the licence for the Miners Arms at Huthwaite.

Suttons Central Area Redevelopment Scheme in 1956 included the demolition of the structure on Union Street, to be replaced by a new bigger hotel of the same name on Coronation Street, which opened in April 1957. (photograph below)
