Sutton Today
The Marketplace
These pictures were taken from the 'top' of the Marketplace, as the area slopes slightly from higher ground to lower. (Hence the name 'Low' Street) In earlier times the market area was smaller, and more triangular in shape, until the local council remoddled the space in 1905.
Here are two of the roads leading from the Marketplace. The left hand picture shows the entrance to King Street from the top of the market. The right hand picture shows the entrance to Market Street from the lower corner of the market. Market Street leads on to Church Street.

Church Street
Church Street is reputed to be one of the oldest roads in Sutton. This view is looking towards Devonshire Square, which is out of sight around the corner.
Lammas Road
The right-hand photograph of Lammas Road was taken from near to St Mary's Church, looking towards Devonshire Square. The photograph shown left was St Mary's School, which was founded in 1669. It is now known as the Lammas School.
